All current available solutions for activecollab to provide Gantt Chart are either clumsy or doesn’t include latest technologies to support all platforms and easy to use at the same time. That’s why, we’ve developed intuitive and flexible with native UI Gantt Chart feature with timeline and management with table view.
Note: Gantt Chart is a part of Planium module and requires activecollab 4.1.x or higher. Read full manual about KanBan Tasks of Planium module
Gantt Chart Features
Here are the most valuable features of the module that you will notice and get in the system:
- Gantt Chart can be used for global project management and on the Project tab to be organized within every project in a tab;
- There are 2 views to include and exclude timeline, or you can have both table view and timeline with draggable slider;
- Zooming Option of Timeline;
- Tasks Filter to display only required tasks on the screen;
- Reschedule milestones, tasks, sub-tasks with one click on timeline;
- See the progress of each object based on Estimated vs Logged Time;
- Module adds Start Date field to tasks and sub-tasks that allows setting up duration and plan better;
- Save and Cancel any actions one by one, or with Save all button;
- Display and Hide Connections and manage them easily;
- Multi-Edit feature with holding CTRL on object;
Let’s see in more details how Gantt Chart works in the system.
Projects Management with Gantt Chart
Gantt Chart can be accessed by clicking on Projects icon at the left and selecting Gantt Chart or if you want to manage only one project, you need to go to Project Name-Gantt Chart tab.
Note: Gantt Chart tab can be switched on at Administration-Project Settings
Main screen is divided on 4 areas:
Action bar consists of multiple filters and options that are saved per each user to recover them once user is back on the page.
Tasks Filter area in bar:
There are several tasks filter options like By Priority, By Label and By Status
Timeline and Zooming:
Timeline could be switched off to have on the screen only table view to perform several actions at once.
You can select several projects at once, Collapse and Expand projects that are loaded on the page and Save All made changes.
Note: For Collapse/Expand feature to work, you need to expand selected projects first by clicking on arrow next to project name. This way system will handle several loaded projects without delay and waiting time. Made for improving speed of the system.
Table View – Left Area
Table area is visible by default and includes only main information about object with primary actions that you can do with each object.
If you scroll – it will expand to the right. If you click on switch off Timeline it will take all the screen.
Following actions are available in Table View:
- Editing of Object Name;
- When clicking on empty area, right area will move to the object to display it in Timeline;
- Expanding and Collapsing Objects;
- Opening and Completing Objects;
- Change Label;
- Editing Title;
- Change Responsible for the object;
- Change Start on and Due on Dates;
- Change Estimated and Logged time for Tasks only;
- Adding New object to the parent object;
- Edit, Move to Trash, View and Go to Object page
Timeline will help you better understand the roadmap for any project and redefine the start and end date of each object. There is also option to reschedule any object.
In order to stay within Milestone, all tasks and sub-tasks while rescheduling will move milestone dates automatically. This way, you’ll be within selected milestone, if new task or sub-task is created after milestone date, so milestone end date will change along with new task.
Each of the task have connection line with sub-tasks, in order to visually identify the relations between objects.
Related tasks option and setting relations between tasks in Gantt Chart will be available soon to manipulate it easily with a click of a button.
Visual Scroll Area
This area is used for horizontal scroll and visually displays where objects on timeline area located for you to not look for them on the timeline.
Note: To view specific object on timeline, you can just click on empty area in table view and it will position timeline to the middle of the screen to display that object.
Different objects have specific calculations of progress. In KanBan Tasks and Cards we’ve used Estimated vs. Logged time for tasks and we’ve inherited the same feature here.
As tasks don’t have estimated time field, we’ve used either 0% progress for opened sub-tasks or 100% progress for closed sub-tasks.
Milestones progress is inherited from core system and is based on Closed Objects vs. Overall Objects assigned to milestones.
Multi-Edit in Table View
If you need to perform several actions at once with different objects and even of different types, you can hold CTRL button and click on any object in table view at the left side.
You’ll see 3 different areas on the left side above timeline. Each area is specific for Milestones, Tasks, Sub-Tasks management.

If you are using other modules that have start date in tasks and sub-tasks there are no problems with migrating to our module. Just don’t uninstall other module and just deactivate it. Then upload our module and install it.
